Can I have my MRI done abroad, in order to get an appointment faster?

In order to undergo an MRI abroad, you now require prior approval from the CNS (S2). You can request this through the CNS's international transfer service, which you can contact via email at: tae.cns@secu.lu.

My son/daughter is going to study abroad, is he/she still insured for medical care?

Yes, he/she remains insured and is entitled to reimbursement of the cost of treatment according to the rate of the country of treatment. We recommend that you contact an health insurance company in the country of study to find out if it is possible to register the student in order to benefit from the same rates as residents. This registration is supposed to be free for students.

I have sent you Luxembourgish and international medical bills, but you have only refunded the Luxembourgish bills. What about the international ones?

Luxembourgish and international bills are not reimbursed by the same department. Furthermore, we need more time to process foreign bills. They are not lost, they will be reimbursed later, please be patient.

I would like to be operated abroad, is it possible?

In order to perform your operation abroad and be eligible for reimbursement, you must have prior authorization from the CNS. These authorizations (S2) are processed by the CNS's Foreign Transfer Department. You can contact the department by email: tae.cns@secu.lu.

Can I have my physiotherapy sessions abroad?

Physiotherapy sessions in a member state of the EU, EEA or Switzerland are covered by the CMFEP at the Luxembourgish rate, if the insured has previously obtained a title of reimbursement issued by the CNS.

May I buy my glasses/lenses abroad and be eligible for reimbursement?

Yes, glasses/lenses are reimbursed according to the Luxembourgish rates and tariffs provided by the optician's nomenclature, if the optician is an approved optician and if the bill indicates the degrees of refraction of the glasses purchased (dioptres, lenses, cylinders, prisms). A medical prescription is required for glasses for children under 14 years of age.

Glasses purchased in countries outside the European Union, EEA or Switzerland will not be reimbursed by the CMFEP.
